Old Ordnance Survey Maps of Lancashire

This is our coverage of Lancashire. The boundaries of Lancashire were greatly changed in 1974 when the new metropolitan counties of Greater Manchester and Merseyside were formed, the Furness area was transferred to Cumbria, and Warrington became part of Cheshire. At the same time Barnoldswick Urban District, Earby Urban District and Bowland Rural District, all in Yorkshire, were transferred to Lancashire.

Lancashire is now divided into 12 districts for administrative purposes: Burnley, Chorley, Fylde, Hyndburn, Lancaster, Pendle, Preston, Ribble Valley, Rossendale, South Ribble, West Lancashire, and Wyre. Lancaster was granted city status in 1937, Preston in 2002. In 1998 Blackpool and Blackburn with Darwen became unitary authorities, and they are listed separately.

The following titles are all taken from the OS 25" maps and reduced to a scale of approximately 14 inches to the mile. Each covers an area of a mile and a half by one mile, and includes an introduction.
