Old Ordnance Survey Maps of Middlesex

  • These detailed maps normally cover an area of about one and a half miles by one mile. Each map includes an introduction. The Middlesex maps link up with those for London to form a major series for the Greater London area. They are available through our On-line Mapshop

  • Here are the details of maps for Whetstone:

  • Middlesex Sheet 6.12 Whetstone 1897 - published 1987; intro by Percy Reboul & John Heathfield. ISBN.978-0-85054-132-8

This detailed map covers an area stretching from Totteridge Green eastward to Oakleigh Park. The Great North Road runs north-south through the centre of the map, closely paralleled by the GNR High Barnet line (later Northern Line), including Totteridge & Whetstone station. A short stretch of the GNR main line is in the NE corner, including Oakleigh Park station. The main feature is Whetstone, spread along the Great North Road, including St John's church, North Place, numerous pubs, and several nurseries off Oakleigh Road. Oakleigh Park is in early stages of development but includes All Saints church. The county boundary with Hertfordshire runs down the Dollis Brook, and west of it we find much of Totteridge Green.

The map links up with Middlesex Sheets 6.08 New Barnet to the north, 6.11 Totteridge to the west, 7.09 East Barnet to the east and 6.16 North Finchley to the south
