  • Yorkshire Sheet 283.02 Wombwell (South & Lundhill 1901 - published 2003; intro by Melvyn Jones. ISBN.978-1-84151-557-1

    This detailed map covers the southern part of Wombwell, a few miles SE of Barnsley, with some nearby hamlets. Coverage stretches from Wombwell Market Place southward to Lundhill Farm and eastward to Broom Hill. The Dearne & Dove Canal and its Elsecar Branch wind through the map, meeting at Wombwell Junction. The GCR Barnsley to Barnetby railway runs across the map, with a stretch of its Elsecar Branch. Several small hamlets are shown: Lundhill Row, Concrete Cottages, The Junction and Broom Hill. At the foot of the map part of Cortonwood Colliery is shown. Within Wombwell features include Wombwell Hall, Summer Lane, Poplar Farm. Other features include Brampton Bull's Head Inn, Cliffe Field, Lundhill Staithe, Hemingfield Sewage Works, several old shafts, Dearne Valley Water Works. On the reverse we include directories for Brampton Bierlow, Hemingfield and Wombwell.
